Power At Your Fingertips

In addition to world-class data integrity, Z E V O's Platinum Edition brings you the ultimate goodness of ZFS through the Z E V O Utility GUI, where all your storage options can be configured, scheduled, and monitored.

We've Got You Covered
Our Platinum Edition offers data redundancy in two forms: Mirror and RAIDZ, sparing you the headache of drive failures. You can depend on Z E V O to always have another copy of your data safely stored.
The Snapshots feature protects you from accidental deletions or unintentional changes. Z E V O saves you from those dreaded Uh-Oh moments. The Z E V O Snapshots Scheduler gives you the power to decide the frequency and retention policies for your snapshots.

Peace of Mind
Z E V O's Checkups provide efficient validation of all your valuable data. Even single-bit errors can be detected, anywhere in a file or directory. Data checkups can even be scheduled to occur at a convenient time and frequency.
System Requirements
- Mac OS X: Snow Leopard (10.6.5 or later) or Lion (10.7.1 or later)
- An Intel processor
- 4GB of memory (RAM), 8GB recommended
- 25 MB of available disk space
- A dedicated, unused internal/external hard disk
- Some advanced features (like deduplication) require running a 64-bit kernel
Technical Details |
|||||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Data Checksums: | Every block of data (including user's file data) is protected by industrial strength 256-bit checksums. | ||||||
| Data Scrubbing: | Both manual and scheduling service available. | ||||||
| Data Redundancy: | Supports mirrored disks, RAIDZ (single and double parity). | ||||||
| Data Compression: | Transparent native inline file compression is a built-in option. | ||||||
| Data Deduplication: | Transparent inline block level data deduplication is built into the file system. This feature requires running a 64-bit kernel. | ||||||
| Snapshots: | Real snapshots that are time/space efficient and easily browsable. Snapshot scheduling service. | ||||||
| Supported Devices: | Compatible with external Mac storage devices connected via USB 2.0/3.0, Firewire 400/800, eSATA and Thunderbolt. Additionally, all Apple supported internal drives (SATA, SAS and SSDs) are supported.
ZEVO is not designed for use with CompactFlash devices (camera memory cards) or DiskImages devices (hdiutil). |
||||||
| On-Disk Format: | Uses ZFS version 28 with industry standard GPT disk labels | ||||||
| Advanced Format Drives: | Drives with native 4,096 byte sectors are fully supported. | ||||||
| Case Sensitivity: | For maximum compatibility, both case-insensitive and case-sensitive filenames are supported. | ||||||
| Sharing Options: | Your Z E V O storage can be shared by other machines using AirDrop, AFP*, SMB (CIFS), NFSv3 and FTP protocols. | ||||||
| 32 / 64 Bit Support: | Both 32-bit and 64-bit kernel runtimes are supported. 64-bit highly recommended. | ||||||
| Extended API support: | Full native support for the extended Mac OS X APIs including, native extended attributes, bulk access, named-streams, lookup-by-id and searchfs (PBCatSearch).
Note that some applications and services are hard-wired to only work with HFS+ even though all the necessary support is available from ZFS. |
||||||
| *Sharing of ZEVO volumes over AFP is not fully functional in Lion (10.7). We are working on a solution. | |||||||

Plug-in Architecture
![]()
Mac OS X has an impressive plug-in architecture that allows different storage technologies to be easily added into the operating system. In fact, the majority of the file system technologies in use on Mac OS X were developed outside of Apple, yet they seamlessly plug in to give users more options for data interchange.
Some examples of these externally developed storage technologies include NFS, SMB (CIFS), MS-DOS (FAT), NTFS, UFS, ZFS and ISO 9660 (CD-ROM).
Z E V O leverages the incredible ZFS Technologies and has packaged it as a storage plug-in for seamless integration into Mac OS X.
